"When you are up to your backside in alligators it's difficult to remember that the initial objective was to drain the swamp"

Tue Feb 24 09:00:18 2009 GMT Yes Baroni I agree. I think the point in the topic for me is that if a focus on how a project will deliver extra cash flow in a business is kept uppermost in mind projects would stay more focussed.

Mon Feb 23 14:28:07 2009 GMT I cannot argue with that, I'd like too...

MS, BT and all the other big players are moving to a services based proposition. The reasons being the move to hosted, SaaS models, Cash Flow, and the cost of managing in-house (staffing, keeping up to date, security, etc, etc). this is a whole, wonderful new world for them where licences can be managed... This will mean per user monthly rentals, rather than hefty licence costs/management.

Fighting Alligators: Clearly listing the business issues you set out to manage at the start of the project, and keeping a focus on them is the only way to ensure you end up with what you wanted in the first instance, when you were not panicing because of the alligators.

I like my stats: Generally only 20% of a project actually get delivered - as projects rollout, budgets allocated are drawn back for other projects. Think of the lost opportunity
